Classic Characters From Board Games
Board games very often are about a particular story and feature different characters that we all have come to know and love. There are very few of us who wouldn't recognize Rich Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly, some of the beloved faces from the children's game Candy Land, or any of the iconic characters from the classic detective game Clue. The characters featured with a game are often extremely valuable to enhance the mood and theme of the game, and because of the intense popularity of these games, these characters have become a lasting part of today's pop culture.
The mascot of Monopoly, now referred to as Mr. Monopoly instead of Rich Uncle Pennybags, has been widely used and featured with nearly every incarnation of the game since 1946, when he made his first appearance on that edition's game lid. We have seen him around frequently since then, and although he is not a playable character within the game, seeing Rich Uncle Pennybags brings a response of familiarity out of most people. Whenever a board game character becomes referenced in outside media, we can be assured that they have become a part of typical pop culture. Rich Uncle Pennybags has been referenced in everything from The Simpsons to Ace Ventura and that character belongs to the world now.
The Candy Land characters also provide us with a familiar sight. The game has been popular since 1949, when faces such as King Kandy, Gramma Nutt, Lord Licorice, and Mr. Mint became a part of board game canon. Their familiar faces are learned by young children, who grow up to associate good times with the game and those characters. You would probably have a difficult time to find anyone who wouldn't recognize any of those characters and be able to associate at least one of them with Candy Land.
Clue, however, provides some of the most memorable characters in the most lasting way. With Clue, players play the game as the characters themselves, compared to these other games in which the characters are just a feature in the game. In this classic detective game, six memorable suspects take the center stage, in which they try to figure out which of them committed the murder of poor Mr. Boddy, who is a pretty memorable character himself, despite never making an appearance himself. Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Professor Plum constitute these iconic suspects, and by playing as one of them during the game, their place in today's culture becomes affirmed.
One of the interesting things about Clue, however, is the multiple editions that it has produced and the ways that the characters change slightly in each. Since its conception in 1949, each edition has produced a makeover of both the game board and the characters, giving them a slightly different appearance each time. The story behind each of the characters changes as well. The game adopts a situation that can fit many different particular stories and because of this, the characters in the game can be rich and lasting, able to survive through shifts in culture and popular view. The characters have done this, however, for it is pretty safe to assume that any of us who have ever accused "Colonel Mustard in the Library with the Lead Pipe," has known what they were talking about.

Bible Bingo Game For Preteen Sunday School
Here is an easy to make, and easy to play Bible bingo game for a preteen Sunday school class.
Materials
List of 50 words from the lesson
50 index cards
Pencils, crayons,colored pencils, or markers
Small prizes if desired
How to Make the Game (This should be prepared before class.)
1. Type a list of 50 words from the Bible passages concerning the lesson, or words from the past several lessons. This is perhaps best used as a review game that covers several weeks of Sunday school, because it may be hard to get 50 words from one Bible story.
2. Print a copy for each student in your class.
3. Write the 50 words on the index cards, one word per card.
How to Play
1. Give each child a sheet with the list of words.
2. Instruct them to circle any 5 of the 50 words on the sheet in pencil. Have them lay the pencil down when they are finished. That way you'll know when they all have their words circled and the game can start. Also, when their pencils are down, they can't change what they've circled.
3. The teacher or caller shuffles the index cards and places them face down on the table in front of him or her.
4. She picks a card and reads it aloud. If any player has that word circled, he or she crosses it out with a crayon, pencil, colored pencil, or marker.
5. The first player to have all 5 words crossed out is the winner of that round and calls "Bingo."
6. That player is the next caller, plus if desired, can get a small prize. It has always been my experience that they are more excited about being the caller than getting a prize. But you can try both if you wish.
7. For the rest of the games, children don't have to have a new sheet. They simply circle 5 different words, and the play starts again in the same manner.
8. Several games can be played before you start running out of words.
I like using Bingo games in my preteen ministry because it keeps all the children involved at the same time. Games add variety and interest to the Sunday school class. Also, most of the kids really enjoy the chance to be the next caller.

An Obstacle Course for a Child Physical Activity
Setting up an obstacle course is a wonderful child physical activity. Children get lots of exercise while having fun. An obstacle course can be set up with items you may already have. Usually an obstacle course is set up outdoors, but can be a wonderful indoor activity when the weather is bad.
To set up an obstacle course, think of terms such as jump, hop, crawl under, climb over, walk along, go right or go left. A child physical activity includes practicing gross motor skills, balance and coordination. Plan out the course by listing the skills you want the children to practice. Eight to ten stations is a good number for school age children.
Use a ladder flat on the ground to run through Crawl under a table or broom hung between 2 chairs Hop through hula hoops set on the ground Step over an obstacle such as yardstick between 2 chairs at knee height Walk across balance beam (4"x4" board) Weave in and out of poles made with PVC pipe inserted in sand buckets Squeeze through 2 objects placed close so child walks sideways Throw ball into wastebasket Carry an object on a spoon (water balloon outdoors, small ball indoors) Jump or skip 5 times with jump rope Bounce or dribble ball to next station (at least 5 times)
You can adjust this child physical activity to fit the ages, abilities and number of children in your group. Make the obstacle course simple at first and gradually increase the difficulty of each station.
If you want, time the kids to see how fast they can complete the course. Record their individual times and see if they can practice to improve their own times. Make certificates of accomplishment and completion of this child physical activity; the obstacle course.

10 Great Activities For Autistic Children
Sometimes trying to come up with activities for autistic kids that will be fun, educational and not cost a lot can be a struggle. So it's reassuring to know that there are a number of possibilities out there, it's just a matter of finding some that will appeal to your child's personal tastes. The following are examples of popular activities for autistic children between the ages of 7 and 11.
Indoor Activities:
- Singing - autistic children gain a number of benefits from singing. Children who are non-verbal can hum, make sounds, or play musical instruments such as whistles, tambourines, drums, kazoos, or small keyboards. Repeating sounds, making up new tunes, or even learning educational lyrics can be very useful for helping kids to learn and may also provide them some much-needed sensory stimulation - the same they would get from yelling, only more pleasing to the parental ear! Mimicking one another's notes and tunes can be an important social experience that encourages interaction. Experiment with different sounds and different types of music to find the ones your child enjoys and responds best to.
- Funny Sounds - making and mimicking funny sounds can be a laughter-filled social learning experience for autistic kids and their parents. Children enjoy the sensory outlet and repetition element of this game. You can try writing down a number of different animals or items on different pieces of paper and whichever you choose you have to make the appropriate noise.
- Castles - building castles out of just about anything can be a great deal of fun. The type of building "blocks" depends on the motor skills of the child. It can range from plastic or wooden alphabet blocks to large "Lego" or "Duplo" style blocks, or even playing cards if they're manually dexterous.
- Safe Emergencies - these games are educational based but can also be fun to. They involve enacting the right procedures for what to do in an emergency event. This includes what to do in case of fire and other urgent situations. The important part of these games is to build a calm routine around them.
- Simple Board Games - Begin with simple or basic board games and increase the difficulty level as your child gets older and learns how to work with the rules of the games. Many board games are enjoyable activities for autistic kids because they are relatively predictable and provide a routine. They also encourage turn taking, but make sure losing is never a big deal, it's just an outcome. Otherwise they may associate negative emotions with the game and refuse to play.
Outdoor Activities:
- Simple Childhood Games - think back to your childhood and the games you used to play. For many children there's no reason why they can't take part in basic childhood games. As long as they are not too socially complex, many autistic children can have a lot of fun playing games such as tag or follow the leader. Keep in mind that the best activities for autistic children don't require them to keep close or extended physical contact with other people. You may want to make sure that you stick to games that focus on your child's unique skills to add comfort and confidence to the playing.
- Organized Sports - many children enjoy taking part in organized sports like any other children their age. Aim for sports that allow them to take part without too much sensory stimulation and that doesn't require lots of equipment. Golf and baseball are good activities for autistic kids, whereas sports such as tackle football may not suit.
- Water Balloons - autistic children can often benefit from various sensory stimulators and water balloons can fit the bill. Tossing them about, or holding and squishing them can be lots of fun. This also encourages children to play with others when it comes to games such as "hot potato" - tossing the water filled balloon to one another pretending it's a hot potato.
- Skipping Rocks - if you are fortunate enough to live near water and your child is responsible around water, skipping rocks can be a great way to have fun and use arm muscles, encouraging the development of motor skills. If you have a swimming pool that is large enough, you can try skipping plastic floating disks instead.
- I Spy - whether trying to pass the time in the car or sitting in the yard, this game is a great way to learn colors socially interact with others.
These activities for autistic children are a great way to have fun, learn important lessons, and develop basic social skills without spending the earth.

Twilight Games - Werewolf vs Vampire Chess Set
Care for a game of Chess? A Twilight Game of Chess that is. I've found the Ultimate Twilight party game and decoration combination with this unique chess board set. Vampire vs Werewolf Chess set has all the same pieces as your regular chess set at home...it's just that instead of knights, queens and kings, there are vampire players on one side and werewolf chessmen on the other. It's not your everyday party game, but then, this isn't your everyday party theme.
I don't think this board game was made with Twilight in mind, but it certainly fits in with the novel's theme of two supernatural life forms battling. Won't your friends be truly amazed to see this unique game, heck, I was amazed when I saw it! Oh, didn't I admit it? I am a big Twilight fan myself, so of course I know what I would like to have at my party and this is definitely one of the big items on my list. Another great thing about this chess set is that it's on sale. So you get a great party game that is challenging to play and looks great...almost as if it were personally made for your party...and it's cheap! Not a bad deal.
Add some black and red balloons, a couple dozen vampire cupcakes, one difficult Twilight trivia quiz and a movie DVD. While some of your guests "sink their teeth" into your vampire cupcakes, and others test their knowledge of the film and books, a few more will be watching the challenge happening at that chess set. I'll bet this is the item you get comments on all night long, "where did you ever find this?" or "I am dazzled by your chess pieces", a comment usually reserved for Edward Cullen, that dazzling teenage vampire who feel for Bella Swan in the Stephanie Meyer Saga.
The Vampire vs. Werewolf Chess Set can answer that old question...Who will win this ultimate battle for control in the war between Vamps and Weres? Now the fate of their kind is dependent on your chess skills and those of your opponent. This fantasy set will provide hours of skillful fun and strategic challenges for you and all the rest of the Twilight fans in your life. Whatever the reason for your party, all your guests are going to enjoy the challenge of this beautiful, unique chess set.

ESL Game 11 - Mixed Up Sentences
This is another one of those "very easy to learn" ESL Games.
This game is similar to the "Mixed Up Words" ESL Game...but this game is more geared towards more advanced students. When I first started teaching English in Asia... I often found myself in the classroom with 10 - 20 students sitting in their seats; and waiting for me to teach them something fun.
In the beginning...I failed horribly!
But I didn't give up and when you are standing in front of the class and you have nothing else to teach them... you will quickly make a mental note to: Find some ESL Games that you can play incase you have extra time near the end of class.
This is one of those games:
First you need to think of a sentence. This sentence should be some what related to something that you have been studying and / or reviewing during class time.
So let's say that the sentence that you came up with is:
The boy walked to school.
You / the teacher would then scramble up each word AND mix up the order of the words.
EX.
dkwlae ot oyb eht olohcs
Let the students work do the first few Mixed Up Sentences on the board. Once they get the idea of how the game works...Write more mixed up sentences on the board.
You can let the students work together or do this exercise by themselves. (It is the ESL teacher's call.) This is a great warm up game that the students love and always enjoy to play!

Make Your Own Board Games - How To Make Your Own Board Game
Making your own board games does not only help you save up, it also develops your resourcefulness and creativity. Making homemade board games is twice as exciting as playing the game itself. It is also very economical. So why buy them when you can create your own? You can even get a lot of benefits from making your board games yourself. Now, how do you start making them?
First of all, you have to gather your materials. It is important to take durability into consideration when selecting your raw materials. The more long-lasting the material is the more games you'll be able to play with it.
Chess, Checkers or Go
If you are making your own chess game board, you must decide what to replace your chess pieces. Stones and beads are the popular choices for board game pieces. In chess, since the king is the biggest piece, reserve the biggest stone for that. Stones, in fact, were first used as pieces in games like Go. For chess, if you are using beads, choose the largest one for the king or use a distinct color for each piece. And since the Queen symbolizes femininity, reserve the pink bead for her. Almost anything can be used to serve as playing pieces. If you have a figurine collection, you can use them as well.
If you know how to carve, you can use leftover wood to create your board pieces. Then use paint or varnish for a finishing touch. Coins can also be used as markers. The lists of possibilities are endless!
Different board games need different game pieces. Some may require a dice as well as a deck of cards and poker chips. For your convenience, it may be better to purchase these items instead to make sure they're uniform. While you're at it, you may need to purchase some permanent markers, scissors and a ruler as well to make your playing board.
Rudiments: Boards
You can make your own game board from different things. You can use an illustration board or spare plywood to draw your playing field. If you want your game board to be portable, you can even use a cloth, which you can easily fold after playing.
Just make sure that the material you use for your game board can easily be laid flat. If not, you'll be spending most of the time leveling it while playing the board game. If you love the game, it is best to invest your creativity in it, as well as some money, time and effort. A nice board for your playing pleasure will affect your mood while on the game.
Packing It Up
Now you have your board game set. However, you are not done yet. You also have to consider other important things such as the storage of your entire board game set. If the board you made is small and convenient enough to store in a portable box, you can bring it anywhere you fancy. If you made a large one, look for a cool, dry place where you can store and easily retrieve it.
If you store your board in a hot place, the markers may fade right away. If you are using cloth for your board, do not fold it when storing it. Roll it up or keep it flat in an envelope so that no crease will disturb your game pieces once you start the next game.
Making your own playing board and pieces will help you play your favorite game without spending too much. Moreover, your improvised board game set will be uniquely your own.

Max Steel Games
When you hear this term Max Steel games, what is the image which comes to mind? Definitely not some board game because this is about some gungho swashbucking action hero and science fiction superhero so I do not think when I talk about such games it is about playing monopoly or risk. So when I talk about these games, I am talking about real life shooting games using Max Steel toys!
That is right! Though there are not many such toys available right now, I can tell you that with the latest upcoming movie on this superhero coming up, I am sure that there would be more interest in this science fiction character as well as all the toys and games that come with him. Currently I have only managed to find a few action figures and toys of Max. Sadly if you want to play any max steel games, there is only one max steel toy gun available. This is the 5 in 1 multi gear N-tek blaster. The cool thing about his gun is that it really is multi purpose and 5 in 1! Do you know that this toy package contains a target scope to allow you to see your enemies far? A mini blaster gun that can be detached from the main big blaster so that you can actually have two blasters as one pack? How about a knife to knife your enemies when you have run out of ammo? Or the chainsaw to give your enemies an agonising death! I am not asking you to do the Texas chainsaw massacre here and I do not think Max would want to cut up his enemies into so many different parts! Not to forget mentioning the 5 discs that are included as ammo for your blaster!
Well talking about this cool blaster really makes me want this movie to come earlier. Seriously is it being filmed right now because I really cannot stand waiting for it anymore! 2010 is here yet time is passing so slow! Hopefully when the movie comes, there would be more Max Steel games for us to play. Not to forget wishing that you can have some really gorgeous and sexy handsome men like Taylor Lautner to play with. That of course is another different story that can only happen in another different era. In my dreams that is!
Well do not despair as you can always get yourself a part of Max Steel from my blog which will not only sell Max Steel games but also other cool stuff like toys and action figures. Remember that cool 5 in 1 blaster that I was talking about? Check out my blog to see where you can buy this cool Max Steel toy. You would not be disappointed.
